The smartest Part of you wants to buy this book!
By Diana G
Go ahead, now, admit it! Most of us at times hear voices in our heads that give us all kinds of messages, and usually they are not that much fun to listen to.
For example, when writing this review I heard a Part of me insist that I must make this THE most dazzling review ever published on Amazon. Such a burden! By following the steps in Weiss' Workbook, I made contact with this Part and did the internal housekeeping needed to create peace inside myself and produce what I hope is a useful and enjoyable review.
In her workbook, Weiss gives us basic Internal Family System (IFS) theory (which some people call "parts work") so that it is useful even for those who have not read "Self-Therapy," by Jay Earley, PhD, upon which she bases the work. Each chapter includes a sample mini-session and a blank session form we can use for our own self-discoveries. Very helpful are the Appendix A "Help Sheets," which quickly define terms, review steps, and offer suggestions.
Two new chapters not in Earley's book are, "Working with Polarized Parts" and "IFS with Couples," the latter chapter co-written with therapist Ph.D Marla Silverman. The couples' chapter has information and templates for twosomes working on their shared relationship.
When you buy this book you also receive online access to other IFS tools, especially three audio recorded guided meditations.
This is a great workbook and a "must have" for everyone seeking a harmonious inner life.

FOR ANYONE WANTING TO MASTER THE BASICS OF IFS
By Cecily A. Resnick
I am a psychotherapist. In my efforts to learn the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to therapy, I read books and attended trainings. What I realized is that IFS is not a spectator sport. To learn it, you have to do it. The "Self-Therapy Workbook" by Bonnie Weiss teaches you how to do IFS step-by-step. I wish I had this wonderful guide when I first began to learn about IFS
.
What I like about the "Self-Therapy Workbook" are the succinct explanations of concepts, the extremely useful exercises based on these concepts and the careful sequential ordering of the exercises so that by the end of the book, the careful reader is able to use IFS for personal work and for working with others.
The "Self-Therapy Workbook" was written for a general audience but it is also an excellent introduction to IFS for professionals. Its clarity and exercises provide the reader with a solid grounding in IFS. The "Self-Therapy Workbook" is the best way I know to master the basics of IFS.

A missing piece in the personal growth journey
By Lynne Michelson
Reading and working through the clear and thorough exercises in Bonnie Weiss's book The Self Therapy Workbook, confirms how IFS offers essential missing pieces that are not often part of most brilliant and wise writings and teachings about human personal development. As a psychotherapist and IFS practitioner, I am delighted to find her book so useful for laypeople to access the IFS model directly for themselves.
I have been a meditator for 40 years and just today read another wonderful book on non-identifying with fear by a Zen teacher who alludes to opening up to fear versus running away from it. Many writers and spiritual teachers teach us the truth that we are awareness/consciousness/compassion/ease but don't often offer how we Really "deal" with the overwhelming sense that our hurts/abandonment/longings/demands/fear bring us. Whether we are frustrated by our lack of success at work or in a confusing relationship or disappointment at being lonely, depressed, or angry how do we have handle these experiences?
The IFS model, Jay Earley's books and particularly this excellent workbook offer a direct and useful set of exercises for the reader to discover an authentic calm center in the midst of our daily issues. Doing Bonnie Weiss’s parts identification exercise on page 21 while on vacation when I felt irritable helped me helped me come back to being available to myself and my partner. I avoided another repetitive cycle of coming from hurt, blame or distrust but found myself more open and receptive and then shared authentically so I can offer people around me a sense of hope, love, wonder and connection.
