About the Author
JOSEPH BARUCH SHULAM (Chief Editor)

Joseph Shulam was born in Sofia, Bulgaria on March 24, 1946. His family immigrated to Israel in 1948, where they settled in Jerusalem. In 1962, he came to faith in Jesus the Messiah. He was educated at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he received a B.A. in Bible and Bible Archeology. He later came to the United States and studied at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he received a B.A. in Chemistry and Biblical Studies. Upon completion of his B.A., he returned to Israel where he has since been involved in the local Messianic Jewish community. He continued his studies at the Hebrew University, and received an M.A. in the History of Jewish Thought in the Second Temple Period. From 1972–1975, he studied Rabbinics and Jewish Thought at the Diaspora Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Mr. Shulam is the Director of Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry in Jerusalem. Netivyah is an Israeli-government recognized organization, established by Mr. Shulam for the purposes of studying and teaching the Jewish background of the New Testament, providing a bridge between Jews and Christians and Judaism and Christianity, and nurturing the Messianic Jewish community in Israel. Mr. Shulam is also the Elder of Congregation Roeh Israel, also located in Jerusalem. In addition to Biblical Studies, he lectures worldwide on such subjects as the First Century Church in Jerusalem, the Jewish Roots of the New Testament, and Contemporary Middle East Politics. He was an adjunct professor at Abilene Christian University (ACU), and directed the ACU. graduate extension program in Jerusalem in 1988. Joseph Shulam is married to Marcia Saunders Shulam, and they have two children.

HILARY LE CORNU (Research)

Hilary Le Cornu was born in Jersey, Channel Islands, in 1959. She graduated with honors from Edinburgh University in 1983 with an M.A. in Religious Studies. While pursuing her M.A., she received a certificate in Judaic Studies from the One Year Program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she is currently completing her Ph.D. in the Department of Comparative Religion. Miss Le Cornu has been residing in Jerusalem since 1983. In 1986, she began working as Joseph Shulam’s Research Assistant as part of the staff of Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry. She also participated in a four-member Interfaith Reconciliation Program to Rome and the U.S.A. in 1984. She served for a number of years as a volunteer coordinator for the Holocaust Education Seminar at Yad VaShem, and taught a course on Religious Pluralism for the Jerusalem Extension Program of Abilene University in 1988. She spent several years as Adminstrative Officer of the Messianic Midrasha in Israel, and is currently working as a freelance editor and proofreader.

An in-depth study by an honest man

Joseph Shulam is familiar with the traditions, practices, and history of his people - the Jews. Joseph Shulam is Jewish, but he is a Messianic Jew, which means he believes the Messiah has already come, and the Messiah is Jesus Christ. His life is an example of being on the front lines of faith, and he has been threatened, beaten, shunned, and hated because of his beiefs.
Shulam is a Biblical scholar, as well as an authority on Jewish customs and history. He brings a totally different point of view into this in-depth study of Romans because of his dual heritage.
Dedicated students of the Torah and the Bible will want to add this excellent book to their collection.

A Commentary on the Jewish Roots of Romans

This is a wonderful commentary as it is presented by Joseph Shulam. He gives understanding to the difficult scriptures given to us by Paul that have not always been clear from many Christian scholars. I highly recommend this commentary to those who want a true understanding of the Book of Romans.

Some good insight

This book had some good insight, but I had also found a similar commentary online for free that was as good or better and quoted some from this book. It gleaned out most the relevant stuff. Too much of the book was about the Qumran community. I expected more to be from more recognized and reputable sources such as the Old Testament, Talmud, Midrash, Josephus, etc.

About the Author

Paul Haslam is Assistant Professor at the International Development and Globalization Program, at the University of Ottawa. He is the co-editor of Governing the Americas: Assessing Multilateral Institutions. He has also worked as Senior Analyst at the Canadian Foundations for the Americas, a non-governmental organization based in Ottawa that works on issues of public policy in Latin America. Professor Haslam's teaching and research interests span both international development and international political economy. His current research focuses on state-firm relations in Latin America (particularly Argentina and Chile), the international regulation of foreign direct investment, corporate social responsibility, and the political economy of institutional reform in Latin America.

Jessica Schafer is an Assistant Professor at the International Development and Globalization Program, at the University of Ottawa. Professor Schafer's current research examines the relationship between social and environmental change in Mozambique from the late nineteenth century to the present, with a focus on forests and wildlife. Her previous research projects, with the universities of Oxford, Sussex, and Victoria, include livelihoods and natural resource management in post-conflict situations; post-conflict social and political change; reintegration of demobilized soldiers after civil war; and early childhood development in Africa. She has conducted research for the United States Agency for International Development, the Overseas Development Institute, and the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom.

Pierre Beaudet is Replacement Professor at the International Development and Globalization Program, at the University of Ottawa. He has 25 years of experience in international development as a researcher and manager of various programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and as a consultant for CIDA, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and several Canadian and international NGOs.

It covers both theoretical and practical development knowledge, as well as introducing all aspects of each debate. Informative and interesting

Very informative and interesting. I used this for an international policy of social welfare course in grad school. It was a great read and had lots of information packed into it. The way the information is presented is a bit story-like, which made it easier for me to remember. (And for those who just need straight up definitions and concepts, it has an index/glossary, obviously.) Great stuff.

Good for memorization; bad for troubleshooting

The Cisco lab manuals are just project books. They don't teach teach you enough of what commands actually do, but just what to type in. As a result, my classmates didn't perform well in troubleshooting, but just memorized the commands

Professor wanted us to print pdf or have the book. Overall the labs are well laid out. Gives a pretty good step by step direction. A good resource to have for self study if you do not have access to net academy.

I love this series

I love this series, I homeschool and buy these every year. In the beginning of each new subject their is an introduction for the teacher which helps introduce the current topic and takes you through step by step. It helps you guide the kids through the current topic. The night before I go through and prepare my lesson, I highlight and underline stuff. This helps to make a great well planned lesson. They add a few questions for you to ask the kids etc. My point is I like how they ad a lesson plan. I wish I could find more workbooks like this.

The Bible of of NLP Books. Interested in NLP? Get this book!

John Grinder and Richard Bandlers collaboration in Trance Formations truly aims at the heart of what NLP is all about.
While many other books and individuals have tried to capitalize upon the methodologies within NLP, this book is probably where a lot of the other books derived from. Because of this, the book is highly concentrated with information about linguistics and most importantly, using it to your advantage.
This highly distilled book is comprised essentially of the transcript of a seminar which doesn't allow for the best outlay that you may come to expect in a book. There is no table of contents or an index. However, the fact that what these guys are saying is so clear, so distilled, and so elucidating, it's extremely easy to forgive them for the lack of structure in the book.
I personally carried this book around like a bible after I had first bought it reading as much as possible. Most of the seminar transcript is also where Grinder/Bandler are using the NLP to influence the audience, so you can actually see how masters of NLP use their technique.
Some of the topics that are covered are: presuppositions, nominalizations, unspecified referential indexes, deletion, mind-reading, ordinal numerals, awareness predicates, and a whole slew of other techniques.

This book took me a little extra time to digest, keeping in mind that the intended audience is well educated therapists. However, their speaking style is not difficult to comprehend and anyone wanting to learn NLP and you can do so very well with a solid study of this book.

Bandler never ceases to amaze me

I borrowed this book from my university library... and i haven't returned it for 3 months! A book where you can learn heaps from! Basically, Bandler/Grinder talks and teaches about hypnosis, theraphy, NLP and Milton Erikson. The amazing thing about this type of hypnosis (Indirect Hypnosis) is that you can hypnotise using embeded commands. Lets face it, almost all communication, beliefs, thoughts are hypnosis. Everything is hypnosis. Start thinking you're clumsy and you'll notice you actually are! The trick is, we must choose to hypnotise and instil beliefs that are positive and useful to us, not those that limit us! Bandler and Grinder models the technique of Eriksson, one of the greatest hypno-thrapist in the world before he passed away. Erikson was reknowned for being able to tell a patient a story about a tomato plant (with embeded commands in the story) to relieve the pain of the cancer patient! Totally unrelated story, but indirectly, he's hypnotised his unconscious! A great read for those interested.

Superb introduction to being in hypnosis ...

This is the big one in terms of learning about hypnosis as an application of the NLP(tm) model. If you are at all interested in hypnosis and especially so if you are interested in NLP(tm)this book will offer you the tools you need to incorporate hypnotic work in your own applications. There is no doubt there are at least five readings worth of material here for you. First of all is the general pattern of induction that Richard and John use. Often times this is language based (words) however it is in no way limited to language as they also offer non-verbal techniques as well. You'll find as you read along with them that the real success is in the deep pacing that they are both masters of using. This alone will keep you entranced. While the induction techniques are most useful they are also in some way the least relevant. The question for me regarding hypnosis has always been: "Utilization?" How does one utilize the hypnotic state. This is where this book truely shines. From their examples on situationally specific utilization to generative utilzation you'll be returning again and again to uncover what they've done to lead to where they've gotten.
As in all the Bandler and Grinder books after "Structure of Magic" and "Patterns of M.H.E." this is a written out and edited transcript. That also means that you'll get the influence of the editor (again Steve Andreas) coming through in flavor and content. The best way to ingest and digest the material is just to go along. Read the book as though you were attending a lecture, without notepaper. Just read it through. Then after you have, notice how they (B & G) generated in you the state they're describing. This is what you're reading it for ... to have the state experience so that you too can lead others to it. Then read it again ... more critically noticing as you enter the states of awareness induced what's leading you there. Then again, noticing how you're being set up to be led. Then again, again unpacking the structure of what's happened and happening inside of the hypnotic experience. By then you'll be ready to read the book and get it for yourself.

Nice picture book of weight training exercises

Let's face it, if you are buying this, it is probably for a class and you don't need a review as it is required. I was skeptical about getting a "textbook" for weight training (what's there to study? lift weight. repeat.) but learned quite a lot about how muscle development works. Some of the instructions are pretty obvious - don't overtrain, be careful, etc. but the book provides many useful illustrations of correct form for virtually every exercise you would want to do in a weight trainging program, including many variations for each. Also helpful is the descripton of exactly which muscles are developed by each exercise. I was going to trade this in, but decided to keep it because I may want to add different exercises to my routine as time goes on. As usual, Amazon shipping was prompt and trouble-free.
