I learned a lot, but not everything, about Data Vault

If you are new to Data Vault modeling, this book will teach you what a Data Vault looks like: the components, the basic modeling rules, why it is flexible and scalable. It explains concepts and architectual definitions and shows clear examples of several building blocks. However, after reading the book I am not ready to implement a Data Vault: the book raises almost as many questions as it has answered. It would have been nice if the book would have taken the reader step-by-step through modeling and implementation with consistent examples. I expected to have a complete guide to the Data Vault, but I ended up with a solid introduction.

Expensive must have

In a couple of words, the book is a must buy because it is the only Kindle-ready good enough DV book.
The Good: The book is complete from a model standpoint. It addresses all the parts of the DV, delving into details of what works, what seems to work and what mistakes you should avert. Mr. Linstedt tries to prepare you first discussing a lot of concepts, jargon and Mathmatics points.
The Bad: The book is not very well written. My first review was mean beyond reasonable criticism to the overall writing of the book and I am editing it. As I read and read it over again I became more condescendent of his style (or lack of thereoff.) The bad writing does not impair the reading, albeit it does anoy the reader. Sometimes you're forced into imagining a person speaking the words aloud to try to convey some meanings. Mr. Linstedt really knows his business and I totally happy with the book.
The Ugly: the book seems to have been converted to Kindle format on a hurry, and is not worth of its price. It would be right about the thirty buckets, so so. Very lowres images, lots of greys - ugly ugly ugly!!!
The final word: buy it if you need to learn DV in its completeness. None of its shortcommings can prevent you from learning what valuable lessons it has to teach you. However, if you are not sure about it, you might go for Pentaho Kettle Solutions first. There is an appendix much more well written on DV, with good practical example (but very far from completed compared to Supercharger here.) In fact, there was the first place I learned about it and I got increased frustrated no being able to find good DV information online (everything seem to be covered by a veil of cold fusion copyrighted secrecy.) Should Mr. Linstedt have wrote a book on the lines of that appendix, it would be worth a hundred buck!
Data Vault rocks and I am learning a lot of new and interesting things on DV. Coupled with the Kettle Solutions appendix, I am confident enough to try it.
Please, Mr. Linsted, remake the book. It is a fine job and you have unvaluable knowledge to any enterprise in need of DW.

Missing and/or illegible illustrations

The contents are good - the illustrations are very hard to see/read in the e-book version. Illustration 5-16 is totally missing.
I believe a bit more work should have been put into proof reading this e-book.
