Through fifty-seven seasons (and counting) in professional baseball, Wayne "Twig" Terwilliger has seen and done it all. He witnessed the "Shot Heard Round the World" at the Polo Grounds in 1951 and Mickey Mantle's mile-long homer at Griffith Stadium in 1953. He got a game-winning single off Satchel Paige and a home run off Whitey Ford. He turned double plays against Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson one season and with them the next. He counted Willie Mays and Roger Maris among his teammates and Ted Williams among his friends. He was part of the Minnesota Twins electrifying World Series win in 1991 - and he ain't finished yet!

Born in Michigan in 1925, Terwilliger was an undersized kid with modest skills and big dreams. As a marine in World War II, he played baseball between air raids and witnessed the raising of the U.S. flag on Iwo Jima. In 1949, after only four months of Triple A ball, he became the starting second baseman for the Chicago Cubs - and never looked back. Terwilliger Bunts One is the story of this unlikely hero - a man with all-American values, few regrets, and an unwavering enthusiasm to "play ball".

Terwilliger Tells All

This book covers the life of Wayne Terwilliger from his childhood in Michigan as a Detroit Tiger fan thru his years as a star high school athlete, service in the Pacific with the marines during WWII and his subsequent return to college at Western Michigan in 1946. He even did a stint with the House of David semi pro team before the Chicago Cubs gave him a chance in 1948. He was sent to Des Moines in the class A Western League. The book traces his career as a player in the major leagues from 1949 thru 1960. He played for the Cubs,the Brooklyn Dodgers,Washington Senators, New York Giants and Kansas City. He was a minor league manager off and on for 18 years between 1961-2005. He served as a major league coach between 1969-1994 with Washington, Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins. It seems as though he must have kept a diary to remember all the incidents and stories he relates. I can't imagine anyone having that
prodigious a memory. I particularly enjoyed his remarks about Ted Williams,Kirby Puckett and Darryl Strawberry. A solid read from a true baseball veteran.

Excellent book with insights into Ted Williams and baseball, and the last chapter should be required reading for every MLB rookie. Would have preferred fewer 4-letter words.

The Best Christmas Present in the World, is a moving, memorable, beautifully illustrated Christmas story picture book, partly Factual and partly Fiction, aimed at young readers. The first part of the story is true: a simply told retelling of the well known story of the 'unofficial' Christmas truce that happened during the 1st World War in 1914. German (Fritz) and British (Tommy) troops on the Western Front in Flanders, France were dug into 'trenches' and facing each other through the barbed wire strung across the wasteland battleground known as 'no man's land'. On 25th December, 1914, in an astonishing spontaneous gesture of peace and goodwill, soldiers on both sides laid down their rifles, climbed out of their trenches, ventured out beyond their barbed wire and came to-gether in between the lines in 'no man's land' to celebrate Christmas day, 1914, to-gether, a moment of humanity in a time of carnage. The horrors of trench warfare were quelled temporarily by the outbreak of peace - if only for a night, and Christmas Eve at that - as 'Fritz' and 'Tommy', recognising their common humanity, joined forces in no man's land, shaking hands in friendship, eating and drinking to-gether and exchanging small gifts, followed by an impromtu football match; and all this joy and goodwill on the same horrific battleground terrain where warfare had raged but a short time before. Michael Morpurgo simply and deftly retells the remarkable story as it happened through a letter written by a young soldier in 1914 to his girlfriend at home.

Now the story switches from Fact to Fiction as the time period fast forwards some eighty years on when the young soldier's forgotten letter is discovered by chance hidden in an old rolltop desk. Morpurgo adds a contemporary twist to the story that is stunning in its impact. Both adults and young readers can enjoy this book. Really, this extraordinary story with a touching twist in the tale will pull at the heartstrings of anyone who has a heart.

Horrible Book

This book is an example of a decent idea that's been poorly executed. Very, very bad editing with obscene grammatical errors that left me wondering if English is even the author's native language. Strange syntax, illogical ideas and poorly thought out sentences make reading difficult (I gave up at around 54%). Contains stale technology that is present in a myriad of much better books-nothing really original. All-in-all, this book is only really useful as an example of how NOT to write. By far, this is the worst book that I've ever purchased and I'd really like my money back.

A Rough Draft Published by Mistake

Beginning with the “Time Line”, I am convinced that the author is not well versed in geography, international affairs, alternative power initiatives, and the state of scientific advancement. I was constantly distracted by statements, that don’t ring true. I am sure that the book would make Neil deGrasse Tyson’s head spin. Getting the science right, IS important in science fiction.

The story drags with details that are unnecessary to move the plot forward. Orphan tangents had me searching back in the text to see if I missed something. It was very hard to not skim over long dialogs that comprises the bulk of the book.

The most glaring distraction throughout the book is the lack of editing that left too many incorrect words, punctuation errors and sentence fragments. A Composition 101 teacher would “make this text bleed.” A creative writing professor would advise the author to remove the unnecessary words and tangents that suck the life out of the story.

A nice rough draft, the story has potential but it has no business being offered for sale.

This study guide is really good at providing different strategies that may be used for successful completion of the BOC exam. It also offers Around 700 multiple choice questions covering all the different domains of athletic training, as well as incorporating a cd that has about another 1000 questions including the different types of testlet questions. The only problem that I had, and that some other people have had, is that when scoring some of the questions, the scoring may not be accurate.

The CD ROM the book came with was extremely helpful, you are able to do numerous multiple choice questions by domain, and over 100 focused testlets. Helped me pass my exam. John W. Rittinghouse is Chief Software Architect and Co-founder of Hypersecurity LLC in Houston, Texas. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology with emphasis in Natural Language Processing.

James F. Ransome is a Senior Director and the Chief Security Officer for the Cisco Collaborative Software Group (WebEx). He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems specializing in Information Security.

Profoundly Useless...

Even for an "executive overview," this volume is exceptionally light on useful content. To make up for the book's lack of substance, the authors apparently felt compelled to include tons of filler. For example, the first thirty pages are an overview of the development of computing -- including a bunch of fuzzy, low-res B&W photos of the Eniac, the Harvard Mark I computer, an Intel 4004 chip, Tim Berners-Lee's first web server, etc. (Most of these images are either quarter- or half-page size, so they serve primarily to take up space.) Later in the book, there's a 28-page chapter explaining how to download and install Sun virtualization components; this includes step-by-step instructions and more grainy images of each panel in the installation wizard. Mixed in with all this fluff, there are a few shallow discussions of network architecture, IPV6, cloud vendors and technologies, and security. The book finishes off with a chapter on mobile computing that consists primarily of a discussion of what smartphones are (perhaps targeted at people who've been in a coma for the last decade), and the now-familiar grainy, low-res half-page images of several vendors' phones.

There are much better overview books available (Rhoton's book on cloud computing comes to mind). The real question about this book is, why was it ever published? What editor at CRC Press read the authors' draft and thought it was worth printing in quantity?

Slightly out dated. The technology changes so fast, but this book really brings you up to speed. You must be very specific regarding what open source software you choose for this book to guide you correctly.

This book gives specific information about how to work with Archangel Raphael,and which types of situations he can easily heal. It has relevant stories and examples to accompany the "how to" information, along with written examples of effective prayers for several different situations.

Each archangel specializes in bringing peace to different types of human situations. After reading this book, I know that if I need help with physical health and wellness, travel, pets and/or children, I can call on Archangel Raphael.

The prayers alone are worth the price of the book. When I need help, knowing which angel to ask makes me feel more empowered. When praying for others' well being, there are specific approaches that make the prayer more effective, and this book covers that topic as well.

I found it to be very useful and practical information.

Doreen Virture presents an amazing awareness and understanding of Archangel Raphael in this book. Her writings and presentation include Raphael's attributes and our relationship with him. Doreen Virture includes many stories about interactions, healings, life altering episodes with many people and she includes the various ways and expectations of communicating with the Archangel. This book gives hope and paths to healing and choices in life. I'm still integrating this multifaceted information into my system and have gotten this book for others who, as I, fully appreciate this work and the knowledge within.
